Sorry, but it's damaged by something abrasive. It did not leave the mint like that.

It's a mutilated quarter. A quarter dollar is a coin equal in value to 25 cents, or 1/4 of a dollar, it was chosen as a denomination due to early americans familiarity with the spanish colonial 8 reales (which the silver dollar was based on) and it's subsidiaries, in this case the 2 reale or "2 bit" coin.

Somebody along the way painted that quarter. Then somebody else down the road tried to scratch that paint off...... It is damaged. Spend it or hang on to it as a conversation piece if you like.

What is the thought behind so many newbies displaying their EDITED: Language here that they wonder if is valuable?
If you really think a painted, sanded coin has ANY type of valuable, you're only wasting member's time by asking silly questions.

LOL ... Don't worry about it Dallas. Keep asking any questions you have. Just please don't put that coin in a vending machine.

Totally damaged. I would think that you know that by looking at it.

I voted 5, too. But the other 5, which is clearly superior.

They're tied now. 4 to 4. Each needs just one more vote so both 5's can be tied at... 5.

I voted in the useless poll so they are now tied at 5 each with 5 votes each. If anyone else votes then is all over.

It's smaller then a regular quarter and it thicker and only the eagle is missing off of it so since us newbie's have no clue then explain to me why it's thicker and why it's smaller?

The explanation is quite obvious. It is 5. Or possibly 5.

The edges are peened in, this makes the diameter a little bit smaller and the edge a little wider.

You really need to give that information when you first post a coin. We are not mind readers and do not have the coin in hand like you do.

@Dallas Johnson The poll is optional but many newcomers don't realize it. The members are just having some fun amongst themselves. Nothing wrong with your question. Welcome to CT. Just remember, the vast majority of unusual coins you find are probably damaged and many of the minor error are worth very little. But you'll always get an accurate answer on CT.

Dallas ... Your coin is beat, damaged and abused. Coins get that way.
