I’ve had this $20 for 3 years- thought it was interesting, being from Minneapolis, because Minneapolis banknotes tend to have lower printings. Should I keep this one, or look for a better example?

The reason I thought to ask, was because notes printed before 1990 aren’t usually spent or deposited, so it might be difficult to find a 1988A I FRB note.

The note comes from a printing of just over 25 million. This is fairly low for a regular block and especially for the whole district of a series and denomination. It's a tough call because it is in poor condition. Yet, one needs to ask themselves, "How many of these are still extant?" I've not found a $20 Series 1988A Minneapolis note before myself and aside from perhaps seeking one out on eBay or some such venue, I don't expect to.

Anyway, I would say if you did come across a nicer example I would be inclined to say spend this one but in the meantime I'd hold onto it until such a time when a nicer one came along.

I'd keep it until I found a better specimen considering small face notes aren't getting any more common.

If you collect for fun, and not for investment purposes, keep it.

If you collect currency as a potential investment, then spend it. The inflation rate is at 2%, and the notes value hasn’t appreciated. The $20 was worth more 3 years ago than it is today.

Unfortunately, the note is in poor condition and most of the damage is on the central vignette (portrait) which gives the note poor eye appeal.
