The US Mint will be releasing W mint mark quarters this year. Enjoy, TC https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...ikes-west-point-quarters-for-circulation.html https://www.usmint.gov/news/inside-...xKrUHxzoHHwkwXYvZRkr1RgCBcHbgcYqq-ihman7eVNzA
I like it! But, yeah, I wonder if it'll kick off a roll/box-hunting frenzy more than a change-checking frenzy. The April 1 release happened at the wrong end of my state, but the later release will be right down the road. Wish I knew how to figure out which bank(s) will initially receive them. I'm still a lot better off than (say) most of central and eastern PA, or western VA. (Or California, which misses out entirely on the first round of releases!) I'll be watching with interest for more news of this...
None are being released in my general locale, but I noted that they will be mixed with ATB quarters from the Philly Mint and ATB quarters from the Denver Mint. I also noted that the W mintmark coins will be struck on Grabener presses, not the Shuler presses that the Philly and Denver Mints use. Chris
Oh my! Just wait until the CT posts start coming in. They will be errors as most people don't have a clue what that W is.
Dang it! I still haven't gotten the first two releases of this year yet. Now I have to look for others. Wonder if Dansco and others will put out a corrected album for the new coins?
Well if the mintage of 2019 quarters is similar to that of 2018 you should expect to get somewhere around 25 of them in a full $500 box of brand new 2019 quarters. (This assumes an even distribution throughout the production run.) If the Fed takes any steps to mix the new coins with circulated ones the number per box will drop significantly. As to which bank will get them first, the banks can't specifically order boxes of new coins they get whatever is on hand, and usually new coins aren't shipped out if circulated ones are on hand. So there is no way to predict it and it is just luck of the draw.
"Two million coins each of all five 2019-W America the Beautiful quarter dollars are being struck for release into general circulation for the public to locate in commerce." That is significantly less than normal mintage numbers, which seem to be over 100 million per mint (at least for 2018)...
Only two million, all in the wild, will be tough to find. I still haven't found a 2010-P Yosemite, Mt Hood, or Hot Springs, and there are about 35 million each of those out there.
The US Mint is as bad as the "Bullion to the Moon" sites. Promises of rarities to all the lucky ones when the product passes through 3rd party companies who can train and hire temps to scan through the coins and pluck the "W" for wholesale to large dealers, and rolling the normals, and profit from 1 or 2 might offset the cost. Now all the mint has left in its bag is to loosen the die producing bit and make a lot more "DDO" aka machine doubling to me. IMO. Jim
