As you can probably tell by now this is my favorite series. It’s much more lustrous than the pictures show. I should really consider starting a gold dollar registry set...
Got this one at the 2018 ANA in Philadelphia, and it's now photoed. I always enjoyed CWT's, but didn't want to collect such a broad subject. So, I picked an area of historical interest to me as I also model Civil War ironclads. The Monitor tokens fits the bill for me.
Picked it up 3/31/2019. Double struck in collar. 1896 Barber dime XF mint luster in protected areas and around date. Full LIBERTY on head band. Old cleaning now re-toning.
See the difference? Your coin vs a genuine one. I made comparison closeup on yours and authentic ones.
Can confirm. Don’t feel too bad. I see these in dealers’ cases regularly. The shapes of the dates, the rims, and the lack of definition around the devices give these away.
I hope he comes back. Hope he gets his money back. And hope he learns. It happens to everyone. Even Q. David Bowers once bought an electro type fake 1793 cent back in his early days. Heck, I've bought 4 fake trade dollars, a fake capped bust dime, and a counterfeit (albeit real gold) $10 Indian in the past. And those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head! We all start somewhere but no matter how advanced we are, we should all have each others backs here on CT.
True dat..... that's why when I am out of my wheelhouse I never make a move till I know it's Kosher.....
The date on the 1850 caught my eye right away. Crazy the choices of coins that are being counterfeited these days.
