I have just received them from my Grandfather in the West Palm Beach area, Flroida. I will use the ones with fingerprints on them for regular dollar use, to spread the dollar coin popularity around.
We had plenty of Philadelphia's hint the banks here a couple of weeks ago. I know that does help you out west. I picked through a roll and found some very nice examples to collect. I hope they keep lowering the mintages as years go by. I enjoy adding a coin to the collecting for face value. Can't afford to do much more then that at the moment. Good Luck and Keep on Collecting!!! Allen
I was able to get them from my bank (I'm in the Philadelphia mint territory) but it was 3 weeks after the official release date.
Got a look at them as early as last week where I piked up just a couple. Picked up another $5 yesterday at our local BofA.
I got my roll of them from the bank over a month ago! Edit: Forgot to mention that I got it from a local bank here in SC
That's funny, we have them in Biddeford. If you're going to the Gorham coin club show next weekend I can try to bring some, if you want. Face value, of course.
I got mine from the bank on 2/14/08 (official release date) from SunTrust. Its possible they got them in around that time and sold out quickly or over the last month and have yet to order any new ones. After the novelty wears off they tend not to sell.
AGcollector..If I don't find them by friday. I'll let you know. I am a member of the Gorham coin club. I go to all the meetings, and will be at the show. If you are there, I am the one with my 10 year old grandson. Thanks
I got mine at the official launch at Highlands Ash Lawn (James Monroe's House) on 2/13. There were reports that some got them a week earlier though.
I'm a cashier at a dept. store in Southern Oregon and I've seen a few Monroe's come thru my line. It's nice to see people putting them in circulation.
Yeah, the whole point of them was to get people intrested enough in them to spend them and really like having them out there. To me, the only way for them to do that is to stop producing the $1 bill. That forces people to spend the $1 coin if they need $1.
I finally got Monroe dollars at Key Bank. Thanks agcollector..You don't need to bring them on Sunday.
