I thought i would throw this out here for the more experienced. My girlfriends son is interested in the coins i have and i thought that to give him something to do and to keep him out of my coins i would get him a bulk lot of pennies to search.I am not looking for any key dates just a good variety of dates.Where would a good place be to go to get something like that for him?
I say stop by your bank and grab a $25.00 box of Pannys and pick up a couple of loops and say here ya go. Tell them to look at each and every coin close and show them wahts worth keeping and whats not.
Thanks guys i honestly didnt consider doing that, just never crossed my mind about the bank...what about wheat backs?Any good place to get those in bulk? Like i said i am just looking to keep him busy filling up some folders. thanks agian
If you get lucky you might be able to get a few wheaties in the box of pennies. If I'm correct, a box of pennies has 50 rolls in it? So you might get 10 or 15 wheaties? If you are REAL lucky, you wil get a roll that some old lady brought it that is nothing but wheaties. But if you wanted to guarantee just wheaties, I would say turn to ebay and buy them in bulk, or some members on here. However if you get them from ebay, you probably wont get any choice coins. All of the key or semi-key dates would probably be removed and you would get stuck with a ton of 50's wheaties.
Just have him look for errors and varieties in modern bank rolls, like previously stated. A good place for him to get started and realize their identity & value is to refer to Ken Potters page. http://koinpro.tripod.com/ErrorVarietyList.htm That should keep him busy.
Thanks agian guys.....all great info.I am not a cent guy so i wasnt sure where to go to get him started on something.....He is 11 and really needs a hobby that he can focus some of his energy on and i think this can be a real positive thing for him.Just want to give him options that dont include video games and getting in trouble for being a vandal. He just has a short attention span for other things but he is real keen on my peace dollars and ikes.
Thats great of you to be keeping him away from negative things. If more people were like you and more younger kids werent as bad, the world would be a much greater place. I would say just give him like two rolls of coins per day. At that rate, it would be almost a month before he got through them all. Or just let him go at his own pace. However, just simply giving them to him may not just be good enough. Because he may just let them lay there and keep to his video games.
