Floating Roof is just an over-polished die issue. Not really considered a mint error nor true variety. Cool to find but not truly recognized as an official variety.
If they polished out part of the roof, doesn't it stand to reason that they could have done the same to the designer's initials at the same time? Chris
So are you saying this is very common and worthless? Can you send me a link so that I can compare to my coin? Thanks!
I examined the coin again under magnification. It looks like the roof was never attached and the fg wasn't struck on this coin. All other area appear sharp and strong, even the image in memorial. Can this be explained?
Over polished die. There are a few hundred threads on this exact same issue. Use the search feature to get your answer.
Yes, the roof is an over polished die issue and common to 1969 and the FG could have been eliminated by being struck thru grease or other impacted material. Not so common to see both on the same coin but I have found a few also with both.
Thanks guys, 1969 d with a floating roof and no fg is more than enough reason for me to at least keep it for my collection. There is a certain rarity to it in my eyes and maybe the eyes of others having both on the same coin. Thanks again!
