This philadelphia penny has an error on the obverse behind the head of lincoln. It appears to be a projectile i.e bullet at lower back of head. Is this the result of a die dent? Mint or post mint error?
I just think its strangely cool coin. The visual I get when viewing it under magnification. Die gouge? Thanks thomas.
A die gouge is recessed in the die so it would produce a raised area on the coin like the pic Chris posted. Yours is recessed in the coin. The raised metal around the indent is an indicator that it was hit by something after it left the mint. It's considered damage and not an error
Comparing apples to oranges. You are talking about something that is intangible. I have the coin. You can physically examine it. A face on mars, some anomaly in the clouds, some person's imagination going wild and things that can not be physically examined. That is not the case here. Thank you for your response.
You can take the opinion of experienced and knowledgeable collectors telling you it's damage, or spend $50+ and send it to a TPG for their opinion. Choice is yours
All do respect, I already acknowledged that it is die dent, gouge to put it simply damaged. If you are going to use an example make sure it relevant. Respectfully
