Hi y'all, Year ago I moved from Europe to USA. At home I collected Roman coins, and now when I start new life here, I start to collect USA coins . It's just part of life. Anyway, I found this little strange Susan B coin. Looks gold plated but weird and on other side just eagle have gold cover. Also coin have some glassy cover on both side, try to get clear picture from side where you can see that layer on coin. Did anyone knows anything about that layer on coin and gold colour on part of coin. Thank you
I am no expert on the SBA so I can't say but there are a lot of gold plated SBA Dollars for sale on EBay.
Looks like gold highlight on the eagle. And some kind of environmental exposure. Neither adds value. Damaged Spender
Thanks guys for replies. I'm curious about that glass or whatever layer on the coin sides. I have couple gold plated coins but nothing like that
Welcome to the neighborhood! I think you'll find that there are a lot of "colorized" coins floating around in the marketplace. Besides the Susie B., you will probably find State Quarters that have been treated in a similar fashion, even coated with (very, very thin) layers of gold, silver or platinum. Chris
I was thinking either that or shellac. As a weekend warrior woodworker I love shellac because it does yellow and adds warmth to the wood.
Thank you. I already find one "gold plated" coin, state quarter Connecticut 1999. I learn a lot from you guys. Thanks
