So was this note "net graded?" It says "Annotation" on the holder. Also, can anyone read what it says? Thanks.
Let me take a shot. Based on the other answers, I see: Barton, Wis Dec 25, 41 J A K I think it was just someone memorializing a time and place. Whether or not the note was a part of that date and place, you can't be sure. It could have been a memo as to where JAK found the note, it could have been an event in JAK's life and JAK wrote on what was handy, an old $1 bill... who knows?
My first thought was what @mikenoodle said. It was probably written on by someone with the initials JAK and the date was to commerate Christmas. As for the Barton, Wis. who knows but I'm thinking it was where they were born. This note was only written on to be a gift. We really can only speculate on the rest but I've seen notes like this before.
Yes, the note is considered damaged. However, given the note itself and overall good condition I'd gladly add this to my collection. I really think the annotation is nice and has meaning for someone even though we'll never really know.
I'll take a shot, risking half a dozen shots in my direction (as per usual). It was meant as a Xmas present, from father to son. Not for numismatic purposes, but to have a Happy Xmas time whilst spending it. The "Santa" had, probably, never intended it to collect dust amongst other bank-notes, and maybe coins.
Its anybody guess for what it exactly says, but this would not be considered A net graded note, only remarks, hence annotation, net grades are usually more severe such as a missing corner or such, and it will actually be on The front of the note such as Net plus the grade.
