when is it considered ancient

    September 4, 476 AD, give or take a few hundred years. Well, that's what I use anyway.

    I'm really not sure what I consider ancient. Byzantine coins certainly count, at least up until the anonymous folles. And I think that the Merovingian imitations and early Anglo-Saxon coins should count to. It really goes by personal preference.

    Hello,

    For me, but it"s just my way of thinking, ancient coins are those struck before mechanical process. I that way hammered coins for instance, are ancient, or those little coins struck in far east in the middle of the XIX° century
