Still another EBay change for the worse!

Bids under $200 will no longer show the bidder's true identity.

IMHO the excuse about protecting bidders from spoof-type spam is pure hogwash.

Also leaves the door wide open for shill bidding. How can anyone tell if we can't see a patern develop?

I'm looking back on my first post and know I haven't been listing on ebay that much. Hell, my last auction was my first in months - here's an interesting angle.
I may list an item this weekend. Taking signees for shill biddiing! After all I assume the seller will be able to see who's bidding.

I AM JUST KIDDING OF COURSE BY THE FACT THAT I'M PUTING THIS OUT FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.
HOWEVER, with a few emails to friends it will be child's play.

I highly doubt that ebay will keep close tabs on this. After all, how many times have we seen people sell the same coin with the same picture more than once.
No need to pay reserve fees now folks. Just let a friend bid it up to what you need.

    Corporate brilliance in action here.

Who can remember the movie Naked Gun?
Where OJ keeps getting hurt in a chain reaction of mishaps on the boat?

This is exactly what Ebay is doing.
1st, the rule changes, then getting caught posting millions of fake listings during the boycott, now this, I would love to know how many board members are shorting stock these days..........

Well, this does appear stupid. And don't forget the fee increase. I've just had about 30 auctions end on e-bay. Jeez, you can't believe the money they take out. Oh and I haven't even looked at Paypal - too scared.

Paypal is 3% plus 30 cents per transaction, together, Ebay and Paypal is about 15% on store items and 11.75% on auction items

My Ebay bill every month is more than my truck payment was. Thats going to change, as I bought my self a domain name and will take on the task of building a website ASAP.

Just think.....lower your prices 10% and not lose a dime. All it takes is traffic to the site. With any luck it will be a success and a fun time doing it.

You may be missign the big point here.....Ebay LIKES shill bidders.....shill bidding = higher prices....
higher prices = higher ebay fees and higher paypal fees

    higher fees = more money

just like ebay allowing SGS in business for the money they bring in

Let us know when your site is up and running. I'm sure I'm not the only person looking for an affordable alternative to ebay for buying coins.

On the shill bidding issue, I wonder whether the same fake name will always be used for a particular bidder, such as "joeshmoe" always becoming "j****e". If so, with a little work we may still be able to detect shills, but if "joeshmoe" is "j****e" one time, and "f****u" the next . . .

Shill bidding only works with people caught up in the heat of the auction and would have overspent for the coin anyway. I do not care if a shill bidder pushes me to the max I was going to spend - I would not have entered it if I was not willing to spend it. And if a shill bidder ends up winning - well, looks like you lose Ebay fees - and still have the coin to sell. I guess I do not see the point behind shill bidding - I bid what I think it is worth and it usually ends there. I do not worry about being overbid - very, very seldom will you actually see me bid twice.

Believe me that had occurred to me. If I'm not mistaken though shill bidding is ILLEGAL. Can someone clarify that? Hontonai perhaps?
    Speaking of Hontanai....

An excellent point. They may be making it hard but NOT impossible.

I don't know how many jurisdictions specifically address the issue, but the essence of shill bidding is a conspiracy of misrepresentation for purposes of monetary gain, and if that isn't fraud, I have no idea what would be.

    Thank you Hontonai,

I brought this up becaue I remember there was a huge broohaha over shill bidding at a high level in the stamp industry some years ago. It got REALLY ugly as I recall.

    Ebay......GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I am a buyer in a transaction in which the seller had Paypal listed as payment. I win. I go to pay......seller does not take paypal......

" Paypal charges 3%, send me a check or money order instead"
    I reply....NO.....paypal only

They reply send a check or you get a neg and a non pay strike

I call ebay, they are looking into it as far as changing payment rules after auction closed, BUT, they say if I get a neg........IT STAYS on my feedback.

I ask the guy, your telling me with a straight face and you have not been drinking....Ebay will allow this person who broke the rules to neg me? Have we not been thru this about 3 months ago before you kicked the negger off for shill bidding and stealing images?

" We do not interfere with feedback , it keeps Ebay a " Vibrant " marketplace.

I hung up before I got myself kicked off.......

I am so freakin mad right now
