Good Morning !!! This cent was purchased on ebay ,, the start of my 3RD lincoln cent set. All opinions on grade are welcome Thank You Rick
If there's no rub on it, I'd say MS64RB or BN. I can't tell how much red is really left by the picture.
The cheek, jaw, and ear appear to have extremely slight rub. The reverse looks uncirculated. I'm leaning to AU58. Very nice coin!
I see what you're talking about, but that also might be lighting, right? This is the type of thing you really need to have in hand. I just had this long conversation with a dealer friend about noting what's slight rub vs. "cabinet friction" vs. market-sellable MS+ coins. From a picture I figure I'd go out on a limb. Out of curiosity, if that's not rub, how would you grade the coin?
MS63 BN. There are very small contact marks on the obverse design. The BN designation could be due to the lighting, but I don't see enough luster to bring it to RB.
I would grade it EF45 to AU55. There is definite wear at the ear, hair and cheek...and this alone eliminates any MS grading. Here is a MS65RB to compare against. Now this is not my coin, but I pulled it from another site to compare against:
Folks I may be up in the night here, but that coin looks like it has a lot of wear on it to me. Based on the pics I'd be hard pressed to grade it higher than VF 35 - XF 40.
Well now thats quite a spread !!! I will tell you what I had determined with the coin in hand, I gave it an XF-40 ,, There is a little wear evident on the obverse especially around the ear and Cheek, I have seen better struck coins and I believe with the coin in hand that the hair detail is a result of a weaker strike more than wear, the reverse of the coin is a much better strike the wheat heads are very strong with no flattening the VDB is sharp, with a bit of a filled die with no period following the D the color is RB. I have 2 sets left to complete this one and one more for the Grand kids, I will be happy if I can stay around this grade of coin thru two more sets. Thanks everyone for the input Rick
I know where a couple are, its just the money to buy them several saturdays worth of overtime but I will get them as long as I can work no problem !!!
