    Grizz,

Perhap's just perhap's it's the designers initials. If so it's die abrasion. The engravers polished the die so much that the G is almost gone. Then again, he could be asking is this a Transitional coin from 1989 similar to the one I have. My coin, Is not. Maybe we will know soon.

There are no DDR coins for this year. Not to say your coin isn't, a closer view of EPLURIBUS would be helpful. I wouldn't worry about the FG. It is normal Die Abrasion.

On that note i think the lincoln sent is junk. Every Lincoln Cent to come out after 1981 are not made well and are not worth collecting. IMO

Not including the 84 Double ear the 90 no S and those Wide and Close AM types.

Glad you aren't the one calling the shots :D
Though I'm not really a lincoln collector, I know that lincolns are one of the most collected coins out there. You can still cherry pick varieties from pocket change and I think that is awesome!
By the way, it is "CENT" (with a C) and not "sent" (with an S) :D

I collect nearly exclusively Lincoln cents (with a "C"). Although I do not go so far as to say the later designs are "junk", I believe that they took nearly all the nice details from the original design and left a rather crude image behind. Then, just to exacerbate the situation, they soon reduced the strike depth to make it even worse. After looking at the earlier cents where Lincoln had whiskers in his beard in stead of the noodles today and something that looked like hair on his head, the newer design just does not interest me.

I agree with your first comment!!!! :D I collect only Lincoln cents also. Regardless of the plating issues they had during the 80's and 97. The Errors and Varieties are out there to be found by someone.:smile ;)
