Yet another question from me... Can anyone recommend some good coin collecting software? I've been using NumisManager Deluxe on my Macintosh, but it absolutely sucks. I've got a PC too, which I'm guessing I'll have to use for tracking inventory, etc. I'm looking for something easy to use, with a good interface, and hopefully on the inexpensive side. Any suggestions?
well pal, I think I'll be the 1st to say it, try/use MS Excel, I know is only a spreadsheet...but is SO useful, you can do anything with it! is fully customizable etc! I tried like 3-5 programs before even tried Excel, and I have to say that I really like it, at least I used it more like a "Checklist" with comments, grades, quantity etc...works very well for me. As for Numismatic Software...I didn't liked any I tried so can't really suggest one
I use Coinmanage 2004 I love it ! Best of all, they let you try it for 30 before you have to buy it. Very well written software. ttp://www.libertystreet.com/
Since I have been member here, there have been many threads regarding different softwares and ways to keep track of your collection. Probably the most recent and informative was this one... Software Link If that one doesn't give you enough ideas or input, simply use the search function at the top of the page and type in 'coin software' and you will find even more discussions on this subject. Good luck!
I have used Coin Elite from Trove Software for years now. I have upgraded it once. It does everything I want and even lets you put in pictures for each coin and custom design reports. I've tried a couple others but none come close to Coin Elite. Have a good day, Gary
I thought about purchasing coin software but went with MS Access database software to create my own. It is a pretty easy software to use and I did not use an interface with it. That is the down side to it and I update the value's myself when I want. So purchasing a coin software that already has an interface for values and the such is something to think about. coinsngolf
Oh man -- the Search function. It never actually ocurred to me to try that, but not for the reasons you think. I am a moderator one of the larger forums on the 'Net, and one of the byproducts of having a large forum is tons of messages (millions), some of which never get indexed. Combine that with some decisions by the developers of our forum software, and you get a search function that, well... doesn't really function that well. So, lesson learned -- I'll use the search function before I post in the future. To you guys who use Excel spreadsheets, have you done some serious customization? I'm decent with Excel, but am by no means a wizard with it. If you could send me an example of what you have done with it, I would really appreciate it. ebangeman@mac.com
Keep in mind that, although the search function here is great, you may find that you want additional input after reading the past threads. Since we are getting so many new members, you may get some different opinions than those in old threads. It's just nice to read through some of the older threads first. Reading those may also raise more questions that you would like answered.
I have a beta copy of a really nice world coin package that has all the 20/21st Century Krause countries, broken down to include monetary reforms, etc.; along with a very attractive layout, including columns for obverse and reverse pictures. It doesn't have a values database, but it has just about everything else you could want, and it's all done in Excell. I have only two problems with it - can't remember where I got it or what it's formal name is.
I have started to create an Excel spreadsheet for North American typesets (US, Mexico, and Canada). I have Mexico and Canada entered, and will hopefully get to US by the end of the weekend. I'll e-mail you what I've got, and you can let me know if you want the rest when I get it finished. If anyone else is interested, I'll stick it on my website when it is done and post a link in case you would like to download it. ~neuron
foreign Do you want an example of what was done with a spreadsheet with foreign coins? I have one from Australia if you want to take a look. rggoodie@bellsouth.net
Rolled my own Thanks again for the suggestions. I ended up creating a FileMaker Pro database for my coins. It's pretty unrefined right now, but I can further modify it. If anyone wants a copy, I'd be glad to send it to whomever is interested.
