This is a Morgan that I used to own; did it deserve a star?

No star on the 1887. The black, terminal toning is considerably unattractive in my opinion. I know some people like the look, but it is definitely not star-worthy. The bands of color that are there also lack the vibrancy that I look for in a star coin.

Too dark, no star, per NGC guidelines.

Found another Morgan that I'd be interested in hearing opinions on (see post above).

First impression, no. But the longer I look at it, the more I like it. Still thinking...

Edit: the obverse has colors that go well together, and for some reason I like those bands on the cheek... think I'll vote star worthy.

This 1880-S Morgan does deserve the star, that obverse is something else.

I'm thinking the green/purple mix on the coin is much better in hand then the picture. Cool combination of colors not often seen. I'll say it got a star.

I sold a coin same look on the obverse, The crescent on the reverse gets my vote. Yes to a star.

Just curious. Since the star is already on the label of the holder is there something else you're asking?

My intention for this thread is to post both coins with stars and without to see what others think (since I believe some stars are correctly applied while others are not).

This particular Morgan is fairly dark and doesn’t have a variety of colors. I think it does deserve the star, but wanted to see what others thought.

I would not give the star to that Morgan. The toning is just too dark. Unless the luster is absolutely stunning, or there are semi-prooflike surfaces to make it pop, it doesn't have what I think it should take to get a star.

No Star. The toning just doesn't trip my trigger.

I once owned a Morgan Dollar that had an almost identical color scheme. The obverse luster was muted and the coin did not deserve a star. Unless the luster on the coin you showed is complete, I would say no star from me.
