Any thoughts? Why are people listing on ebay for big money?

Ridiculous amounts? Is this coin worth anything. It's in damb near perfect condition. But still... not sure.

Near perfect? Look at the scratches on Washington's neck. People can ask anything they want on ebay, but are they getting it? Check the sold listings to see what they actually sell for. Your coin is probably worth a few dollars but certainly not worth getting graded.

People will list a rock from their backyard or a seashell from the beach and ask for whatever price they want for them. They just know there is some bidiot out there willing to purchase.. It's a normal bicentennial quarter. Billions were minted. Worth 25 cents!

Don’t have my resources handy but as I recall there were near a billion of these minted at the time. Keep in mind that the bicentennial quarter was minted two years. Both 1975 and 1976. And at the time we hadn’t seen any new designs in our pocket change for decades. It was a fresh and welcome change so many people picked up rolls from the bank and tucked them away. Now they are now finding their way back into daily use..... Yes it is an attractive piece. Yes, I would save it. Sadly though it is exceedingly common and worth face value.

I agree, very common, but isn't the s mint 40% silver?

Yes it is. Didn’t see that previously. Wonder how that escaped back into the wild?

The melt value is around $1.00 at today' silver price.

I remember when they came out and it was a big deal for numismatists. Your S is a keeper for sure.

People list on eBay at big bucks because there is a sucker born every minute. Nice looking S Mint. That one is a keeper.

@Mark Kenny ...NGC doesn't even list it. NumisMedia, the FMV folks (fair market value), show the San Francisco coin at $3.57/MS61, because it is silver, I think.

Your S-mint has those neck scratches mentioned by l.cutler that is probably from roll damage, so it would be a stretch to call it MS60, even though it does not appear to be circulated, with very nice fields and a strongish strike.

Although a keeper, not worth slabbing. If you absolutely had to sell it, I believe you would still be able to look at yourself in the mirror and sleep at night if you sold it for $2.00.

The people on ebay put prices on stuff that equate to values maybe 50 years in the future, do as suggested by l.cutler and check the sold prices for better data.
