Hi Everyone My question is this....will coins in ANACS old holders be worth more at resale than coins in the new holders? Will the old holders carry more prestige in the numismatic community than the new holders? I was thinking of having ANACS reholder a bunch of Morgans Dollars, but since the most recent buyout, I am questioning such a move. I know no one can predict the future, but can anyone wager an opinion? Thanks
Which "old" holders are you talking about ? The new old or the old old ? To be honest, if you want them re-slabbed you might be better off getting them out of an ANACS holder all together. Most people I'm afraid will tend to lump them all together.
I have about a dozen of each new old and old old (small type). Reholder with ANACS=$5.00 ea, re-slab with Pcgs or NGC=$30.00 ea.
OK - but in the current market coins in ANACS slabs are often selling for 50% of what the same coins in NGC or PCGS slabs sell for. Which one would cost you more ?
If they are in the old, small white ANACS holders, then I would not have ANACS reholder them. Many knowledgeable dealers and collectors understand that there are many nice coins in these holders and will not lump these in with the newer ANACS holders.
In general, older holders only hold additional value to those who don't know better/how to grade. I agree with others, either leave it as-is, or get it graded by PCGS/NGC -- depending on the coin, its value, and your intent for the coin...Mike
I don't plan to buy and new-holder ANACS coins unless the price is discounted or unless I'm very sure of my grading ability for the coin in question. I own and would buy old old holder coins with more confidence.
I thank you all for your advice. I guess the consensus is that I should not reholder with ANACS. The decision I must make at this point is whether to stay with them as they are or upgrade to one of the top two TPG's. Thanks again.
