for some reason over the past month I have come to have quite a few pennies do you guys think its bad that i fancy pennies more than i do silver or gold (its kind of weird since i love silver too) i might sort them out and just collect pennies.....its kind of fun.....
Nothing bad about it - you can collect anything you like! Tons of people here collect copper. Plenty even collect ONLY Lincoln cents.
Are you accusing me of something?:mouth: Seriously, there are several of us who at least mostly collect only Lincoln. Join the club. I think that they have more "character" than silver/nickel coins. I also collect Wendell August Forge Christmas ornaments. They are famous for their work in aluminum. However, my favorite are their bronze ornaments.
How'd you know I was talking about you? Lol! I forgot to mention, I prefer bronze too. Bronze even better with ancient coins; the majority of coins over 30 or so millimeters are made in bronze.
I love collecting Lincolns! Where else can you find as much excitement for 50 cents at a time? I enjoy going bank to bank in different neighborhoods and cities and asking for $10 in customer wrapped pennies. Whenever I step up to the teller, their eyes get big as plates and they are more than happy to get rid of as many rolls of pennies as they possibly can (???). Searching rolls becomes almost zen-like. The calmness is replaced by subdued elation when you hit an AU 1960's cent, picking up something you need or the ultimate feeling of turning over that wheatie hoping you grab something from the 'teens. Ohhhhh yeah... .... Good times ......... Good times indeedy :high5:
Something like that is horrible. It shows your becoming addicted to those little things. I will gladly help you out of this situation. All you have to do is send me all those silly, small, round Coppery looking things and you will sleep better at night. And I will not even charge you for this help. :hammer:
This means you are becoming a coin collector, instead of an investor. When you first started here, you were mainly worried about value. Now, you are enjoying the actual coins. Congratulations, you've come a long way.
Let's see here Stainless. Collecting Lincolns. Nope you're nuts! Seriously, why not if you like them. I happen to LOVE copper Half cents. large cents. Flying Eagles and my beloved Two Cent Pieces of course. Want to know what's really scary? I've never really been a Lincoln collector yet I have an almost complete set of wheaties. Now, after over 35 years collecting, I'm kind of starting to get IN to Linolns. SO many people started collecting with the Lincoln. There are numerous posts on CT about varities, repunched mintmarks etc. that people with more patience than I find IN CIRCULATION. Go for it man! clembo
Welcome to the club Stainless....here are some facts. People who collect Lincoln cents are generally smarter, live longer, and a much better looking than those who collect silver or gold coins.:kewl:
Cents are cool, no doubt. I've been working on my set of Lincolns for years, all pulled from rolls. Never let anyone tell you what you should or should not collect. It is entirely a matter of personal preference.
Dang man, you almost made milkshake come out of my nose. LOL. No prob with you having a fancy for Lincolns man, they are what I am into at the moment, and look at how I am. Oh wait, bad example. LOL, just joking. :hatch: :mouth: Collect what ya like! :thumb: And have fun at it too. Lincolns are hot now, but still pretty affordable, depends how nice you really want them. Try doing VF/XF, and look at those prices for some of the earlier dates. Phoenix
boo, hiss hiss, boo Have to admit I have some copper in the collection, becoming a little partial to half cents.
Collecting cents is great, to an extent it shows you are in it for the history more so than the intrinsic value. Myself, I have went from collecting big silver dollars at $30 each to collecting small nickel (3 cent) coins at $30 each.
