How long would I have to carry this in my pocket to smooth out the scratches? I'm thinking longer than it's worth...

    Thoughts?

Probably longer than it's worth, those seem to be deep scratches, but hey, it'll only sit in your pocket, it's not like you have to do anything with it...

    just a few scratches ...

If you have it worn smooth on both sides then it would be worth a pretty penny as it would have no inscriptions on it to identify it!!

By the time that’s cleaned up enough from wear you won’t be able to tell what it is
