I am a collector and use a web site to share many of my collections and information. I seldom sell or trade but enjoy sharing. This morning, I put together a web page of early good luck tokens, mostly having swastikas. Swastikas were good logos before the Nazis used them. Anyway, if you are a tokens collector, you may enjoy this page - www.sageventure.com/coins/tokens.html If you have images to share for this web page, please let me know. All the best, Craig Murray
The swastika was a good luck symbol for thousands of years before the Nazis changed its meaning. (Similarly, the KKK changed the meaning of the Confederate Battle Flag, but that's another story.) Somebody recently posted pics of ancient Greek coins and one had a swastika. Several years ago I dug up a token while metal detecting. This token was brass (I think) and the size of a silver dollar. It was issued by the Excelsior Shoe Co. and had a swastika and the words "Good Luck". If I remember correctly it also depicts a man on a horse remeniscient of the Lafayette dollar. Seems like it was dated 1910 or 1912. I will post a pic of it if I can find it.
I too have heard that that symbol has been around for a long, long time. And it used to mean something besides good luck but can't remember where or what. Thanks for the info HOBO.
Within the native american peoples, it meant being one with or going with nature. There is also an a meaning for it in Hinduism, that escapes me.
