I'm a no star on the San Diego. If the toning would have been even, I would have said yes. Fantastic example!
The San Diego does have a star. It is different than most others that I have seen and I found it to be quite attractive. Still I was split on the star and would likely lean towards no star.

I don't know, the hits on her face and the field in front of her face are distracting to me. No star.
I've seen a couple of people say this in this thread. While contact marks can affect eye appeal if they are significant, widespread, or quite large, contact marks and eye appeal are usually evaluated separately. The star is for exceptional eye appeal - so even an MS-60 coin (which has a significant number of generally large marks) can still have good eye appeal. There was an MS-60 coin a few pages ago with a star. So, contact marks don't really affect the star. This particular coin is graded MS-65 *, Binion. It absolutely deserves the star - in hand, the luster is quite a bit stronger than these pictures show.
1886 Morgan - Star I do not think the San Diego, 58-D Franklin, 64 JFK, or Trade Dollar deserve a star although I found all of them to be attractive.
That is very true. And I thought that the coin might look better in hand (luster is difficult to capture). Plus, for a Binion coin, this is up there with some of the best that I have seen (in terms of toning).
