This coin will be one of my great favorites. It is what I like most: a coin, might be common like this one, but in very best condition, with some silvering, a faintly wakeful gloss like Frodo's Elvish dagger. Constantius II, cententionalis, Antioch. Obv. Double diademed, draped and cuirassed bust t.r. DN CONSTAN / TIVS P F AVG. Rev. Soldier spearing fallen horseman, shield right. FEL TEMP REP/ ARATIO. Stunning FTR!! I've wanted to make a set of all the FTR types in condition such as yours but they are truly hard to find and quite expensive. Well done! -d
Congrats @Pellinore that’s a lovely piece. @dadams I’m attempting to do the very same. I cannot afford the top EF choices but I did win this one in the last Leu Numismatik Auction. Constantius II, 337-361 Follis 21mm 5.1g Alexandria Mint 348-350. D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG Rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust left, holding globe in his right hand. FEL TEMP REPARATIO / Constantius II, in military attire, standing front, head to left, holding labarum in his right hand and placing his left on shield set on ground; before him to left, two captives. Absolutely lovely! I've been meaning to invest in a really nice FTR that doesn't have the flat spots: One random thing I have noticed about late coins in general... the emperor's legs usually seem to be very realistically engraved, even as the rest of the design gets cartoonish?
