So I received the long anticipated 2019 W Lincoln cent today. It was the first time I've ever purchased a mint set just to get the penny.
So why does my brand new penny have what I'll call "dark splotches" on the obverse fields?

Let me guess...right around 10 and/or 2 on the coin?

Because Quality Control folks all called in sick. Lots of people have had issues. Haven't got mine yet, but with the other threads talking about the same issue, I am assuming my two will also be stained.

Well, it's disappointing to be sure. If they're going to get the public to play their game, they could at least produce a quality coin. I won't be chasing the other 2 W coins.

What do you guys expect? It's a 'Zincoln..........High hopes? Give me a bloody break. The composition is doomed to disappointment.

Mine has a mark at the 2 area. I've seen some with 10 and 2, just 10, or just 2. I have yet to see one that isn't messed up.

True, but even some of the other Zincolns look better than the W coin.

Like I have said, stop buying from the mint. Wait awhile. I literally just got a 2019 P cent (well my girlfriend did with my guidance). It's pretty nice for a shield. Unfortunately you will have to pay a little, but get one in a slab. Wait 6 months to a year, there will be plenty out there in slabs without blemishes. Im thinking 2021 before I even search for W cents, JMO.

Everyone with the bad cents should contact the mint and demand to return the sets. They should also demand the shipping cost back. If they say no, ask to talk with someone higher up the ladder. If they get enough folks raising hell, they might do something.
There is no reason they could not have delivered a quality coin. They messed up and need to fix this. They gave these cents away in order to promote the sets because of poor sales.

I quit buying from the mint a few years back because of the poor service. They need to know that they messed up.

Well. We had to pay for the mint set to get it!
