Ahhhh! I was wondering who was the guy who unsheathed faster than me on this one... I own the other half of the famous couple ! Trajan Decius Same location, same reverse, same size but mine is a bit heavier (15.34g). BMC 29 Congrats. Good catch.
great coin of her from Moesia superior, ACH..i have one from there for her son, Herennius Etruscus hah!..mine almost looks like a hobo coin
SaWeet coin! (Still waiting on my coins from frank) Here's my family collection: My Herennius Etrusc was not from Viminacium but my buddy @ominus1 said I should complete the set...so I kept my eyes out and found the beauty directly above. Here's the silver:
Nice one! Here's my example from year XI: Herennia Etruscilla, AD 249-253. Roman provincial Æ, 12.67 g, 27.45 mm, 7 h. Moesia Superior, Viminacium, AD 249-250. Obv: HER ETRVSCILLA AVG, diademed and draped bust, right. Rev: P M S COL VIM, Moesia standing left between bull and lion; ANXI (year 11 = 249/50) in exergue. Refs: SGI 4220 var.; BMC 3.18, 32 var.; Pick 136; Moushmov 48.
Considering the price was $14.25 including shipping I am very happy! I've heard of these AE28-30 pieces of Viminacium referred to as sestertii, albeit of a local variety. The lion and bull apparently represent the emblems of two legions stationed in the town. (If I am incorrect on that last point please correct me!)

Herennia's portraits are often not flattering. (See the coins in the previous posts.) However it is possible to find a coin on which she is pretty: Herennia Etruscilla, wife of Trajan Decius (259-251). After Decius died she was treated with honor by his successor, Trebonianus Gallus. HER ETRVSCILLA AVG PVDICTIA AVG Sear III 9494. RIC (Trajan Decius) 58b, plate 11.4, which has this hairstyle. This legends and reverse also comes with a different hairstyle: This coin has the same reverse as above, but she appears older and her hair is much different. RIC page 109 thinks this hairstyle is later. The portrait is some evidence. Same obverse legend and reverse legends as above. I don't think the RIC numbering system distinguishes these two--both are 58b.

That one has an interesting half-and-half hairstyle. The top is in horizontal waves like the first one of mine above and the bottom is vertical like the second hairstyle on mine above. I suppose that makes it an intermediate style.
