Look at the top of this nickel - How can you call this GEM BU??? http://cgi.ebay.com/STUNNING-1945-S...ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting I don't think the notch was in it when it left the mint! Amazing the seller doesn't bother to mention it!
I think the notch may be paper from the 2x2 not an actual cut in the coin. Anyone else have thoughts?
Looks MS-61/62 from here. As many know BU simply used to mean MS before the Sheldon Scale came into use. Ben
If that's from the 2x2 then those pics are really deceiving. I have looked at it over and over. That must have been a really bad cut out of the hole to leave that much material. Hope it is the 2x2 because otherwise the coin looks like it has nice luster.
I think you're right. Hard to say. It would be unusual to have a coin display that much luster and have such a major mutilation. Of course, MS64 is not "gem". By definition, MS65+ is gem.
Very lustrous, except alot of them are for the war nickels, lol. I'm not sure if it is GEM BU, but this is how I look at what the phrases mean, but I could and probably am way off: MS or UNC=MS-60-MS-62 BU=MS-63-64 Gem BU=MS-65-66 Brilliant Gem BU=MS-67+ Phoenix
