I received this banknote today. I know it’s from a single run of 320k, and wanted to ask your opinions, fellow paper currency enthusiasts, whether I should make the effort to list this 2001 $50 note on ebay. Is it worth a premium, or does it’s circulated condition destroy it’s value?
It's hard to say but with the fees from selling a higher denomination note and shipping it may not be worthwhile to list on there. In my opinion, this is the kind of note that I'd offer on the Where's George collector forum instead: http://forums.wheresgeorge.com/forumdisplay.php?9-Bill-Collecting-and-Numismatics.
I collect $50 star notes and would do a hard pass on the OP’s note. Soft corners, stains, ink and it’s well worn. Typical high denomination note collectors ($50s & $100’s) want an example in much better condition. Now that’s not to say that someone might pay you more than face, but after the fees and general hassle, it may not be worth your while. If someone else posted this for sale @Legomaster1 , how much would you offer ? What’s your opinion ?
Large denoms are so hard to justify collecting unless rarity is very high. Just too much tied up in face value, and too much devaluation of purchase power of that value over time.
The small single run is a nice plus however the condition is very poor And the writing on the front is a real eye sore.
I think your white balance needs adjusting on the camera. The $50 is really no good as it has ink writing, folds and wear. If I had it I would put it to good use.
Unless a recent bill is graded and/or has rarity, tough to get enough of a premium to justify your time, S&H, Ebay and PayPal fees.
Thanks for the input everyone! I'll spend it at one of the numerous coin shops in Reno when I happen to be there.
