Despite spending a lot of time trolling through many reference sites looking for a similar coin, I have been unsuccessful, so the time has come to ask for help. Can anyone help me to identify this silver Sceatta, please? AR12.7mm., and 1.01gm. The inscription may read +ERE?RI (around a cross) and AOdOBERT (around a circle?)
@Topcat7 - only a non-expert suggestion for you - maybe a "irregular issue"? https://gilliscoins.com/coinage/saxon/ruler/northumbrian_irregular.htm
@Sulla80 Thank-you for that. I have had a quick look at that 'Wildwinds' page and I am off to do more research in that area. (Irregular issues) In the absence of anyone coming back with an 'instant recognition' it is quite likely that you are on the right track. Thank-you, again.
It was previously sold by this fake coin seller... 100% fake. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ANGLO-SAXON-AR-CONTINENTAL-SCEATTA-circa-750-AD-137/323646278026?
