1997 D over D Dime Mint Error

    It could be several things, like Die deterioration or mechanical/machine doubling. But it cannot be a D over a D or a re-punched mint mark. Mint marks were hand punched prior to 1991 but afterwards were incorporated directly onto the die eliminating this possibility.
