I asked him a question about this large cent. After your evaluations I'll show you the question and hopefully an answer. This could be good! http://cgi.ebay.com/A-SUPER-HIGH-GR...ryZ11950QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Lets guess: You asked what MS stangs for. Does it mean More S--t? or MS= Oh, I can'e even come up with one for that. How the heck can that be an unc? DO we just ignore the twenty years of circulation/wear? Apparently he does: "No trace of wear ".
Your misunderstanding this situation. It is obvious that the seller realized that coins back then were made to look worn. This stopped people from over using them since they already looked worn, people felt sorry for those coins and would not use them as much.
Now I am far from an expert BY ANY MEANS, but I'll throw out my 2 cents. I would definitely say it is NOT MS 60. Looks like quite a bit of wear on Liberty's hair and especially the date. You can barely see it! I would venture a GUESS of VF at best about $20.00-$25.00 tops? "A steal at $150.00"...NOT!
Carl: Thanks for the info, I have to remember that. Gotta go and regrade all of my coins. How about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/HERES-A-GORGEOU...ryZ11971QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem THIS 1911 BARBER SILVER HALF DOLLAR STILL HAS PLENTY OF THE ORIGINAL DETAIL. THE ESTATE HAS IT GRADED AT VG-20+ Nice, or another way to describe it is G/G- New grading system VG-20, on a scale of 1,000
Haha, same guy, tons of detail! here was my question: Hi, I'm new to collecting coins and I'm looking for a few good invetments. I know I should buy MS coins and they should be not cleaned. I think this is a good one if no clean. I have much money to buy coins if no cleand and MS. Thank you God Bless America!
Wow - is all I can say. I would call the 1851 VF cleaned and maybe corroded. I could not see the details enough to be sure about the corrosion, but man I would pass on it period. Oh well!
No, WE don't ignore it... but you're right - s/he certainly did ! I don't think it's a bad coin for a guy looking for an entry level VF late date large 1c. $20 - $25. Sadly, the ESTATE graded it at a fabulous MS-60 - they saw "No trace of wear". Here's the best part of all... "AS OF 2/29/08 $15.00 OFF STARTING PRICE, THIS IS NOW A STEAL." :headbang: It is now officially a STEAL. It wasn't before , but now it is.
Who's doing the stealing though???? His username is melonpatch, mabey he is looking for someone who just fell off the turnip truck!!
Here's the best part THE BEST OF THE BUNCH AN 1854 LARGE CENT GRADED BY THE ESTATE AT MS-60, OPINION BUT A GOOD ONE.
