I cherrypicked this variety from a dealer today, my first cent with a misplaced date (in the denticles). Fits well with Snow-6. Not listed in Breen, according to Cherrypicker's Guide. The rim ding is a bit distracting, I know.
You can see the date in the dentils! Cool find - there was a seller on ebay that sold a whole bunch of these for various dates, but none were as nice as yours. Nice coin and a good find.
Super Cherrypick! I have searched a lot of known Dates with misplaced Dates and have not found a single one yet, that was not attributed already. Frank
The dates were hand punched into the dies back then. Sometimes the puncher got careless and punched the numerals way out of position. This one was way low so only the top portion of the numeral is visible in the denticles.
A good book on this subject is Two Dates Is Better Than One. (I don't recall who wrote it and I can't put my hands on my copy.) It explains how RPDs (repunched dates) and MPDs (misplaced dates) occur and lists quite a few along with detailed photos. I think the book only covers Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents. It is a very interesting read.
