NGC Gaffs badly on obvious flip over dbl strike

I submitted this coin to them as a flip over double strike. You can see the date, 1720, clearly on the obverse above the head of Louis XV. Problem is, the date is on the reverse of the coin in this case.

There is more evidence of the same, but this much should suffice for even the non expert to see my point.

The utter MORONS at NGC did not see this. They went on about hairlines.... ok maybe someone tried to clean it, I dont know, but that does not change the fact that it is a obvious flip over double strike. That is a simple fact.

But no... I was told it was not. For what it costs to submit coins to them, these idiots really ought to get it right. 1720Obv.jpg

I did not notice at first, this variety has a slightly different reverse. My point though was the location of the date on this coin.

Did you submit as an error? Did you pay for the attribution fee?

I have been with NGC for many years. Please stop calling them all those unnecessary names.

I did indeed, and when it came back I challenged them but they would not look at it again.

Do you not see what I mean? Do you not see the flip over double strike?

What would you call a company you submitted this to calling it an error and getting this back?

It's your story against theirs.. I can't answer that question. Do you have a copy of the submission form?

Just trying to figure this out.

No, but take my word for it, I was as unhappy then as I am now and I sure let them know.

They FOR SURE knew when I submitted AND when I was unhappy when it came back.

Now, can you defend what they did? If not, I say my "unncecssary" name calling stands.

Frankly without better photos I don't think anyone can help answer your question. As for NGC, yes they make mistakes. But they have a lot of knowledge and experience and overall I trust them.

The photos are fine enough for you to see 1720 above the kings head and the image of a correct coin shows it on the reverse.

    Do you not see that?

Maybe it's not what you think it is. There wasnt exactly quality control with coins back in those days. Im not awfully familiar with the minting process of your coin but a flip over double strike probably isnt a thing with these.

Now what Im seeing is the possibility of an overstrike. And maybe that is what NGC thought as well.

Anyone know if NGC will lable a coin as an overstrike if it isnt listed as such on the submission form first?

As I have said, I did put that on the submission form, I just did not keep it when it came back.
