What happened to this 1914 $5?

    That's a note I'd want to see in hand. I would be concerned that it was the victim of improper storage in a vinyl holder.

    I agree that it looks like PVC damage.

    If you click on the sold photo and scroll down you can still see it.
    It does look like an offset ink transfer.

    Offset transfers do not appear on both sides of the same note. It is PVC damage.

    Yes, I only looked at the obverse.
    But again I didn't say it was an offset ink transfer, only that it looked like one, which it does.

    Looks like oil covered it, allowing that look.

    I would of passed on it anyway, regardless of any error the condition
    Is awful, so you didnt miss much.
