"Veneri Gentrici" on my Sestertius can be translated as "to Venus the mother". A hope that would not come true for the empress with a husband like Hadrian... SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG PP - Diademed and draped bust of Vibia Sabina/ VENERI GENETRICI S C - Venus standing right, holding apple Sestertius, Rome 128-134 24,83 gr / 32 mm RIC 1035, C 74, BRMC 1883, Sear 3941 Here is Venus Gentrix at the Louvre in Paris, displaying the same pose:
Very nice! I still don't have a Sabina with a Vesta reverse. Most of mine have the shorter SABINA AVGVSTA legend, too. Here's one with the longer obverse legend such as yours. These early 2nd century denarii circulated for decades. I'm sure it's impregnated with pagan altar smoke, gladiator blood, centurion sweat, and olive oil. Sabina, wife of Hadrian, Augusta AD 128-136. Roman AR Denarius, 3.20 g, 17 mm. Rome, AD 131. Obv: SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P, diademed and draped bust, right, with hair in queue down back. Rev: PVDICITIA, Pudicitia standing left, drawing out folds of drapery from dress, left hand at side. Refs: RIC 407; BMCRE 911; RSC 62; RCV 3922; UCR 476; CRE 61.
