Nice luster on the coin. I agree with 64. Might even go 63, but they are lenient on GSA coins. I agree the only place to send it would be NGC for the ribbon/stripe grade.
The '85 cc looks great from the pictures, but I'm VERY leery about that obverse picture. The angle of the coin and the bad white balance of the photo leads me to believe the seller is hiding something. You would think the obverse and reverse white balance would be the same. It looks "off" to me and I can't figure out why yet. The reverse has some very interesting die cracks and yet the strike looks very strong. Not sure what to make of this coin from the pictures. Does this GSA have a grade? Is it yours?
This is the first time I've ever seen luster breaks that are completely parallel to one another. Chris
Banged up cheek and neck. Otherwise great. High end 63 low end 64 on a good day. Much better date too
lol you guys talking here about ms 64 Morgan dollars from the Carson city mint meanwhile I am just sitting here even willing to take any cc thing XD. One can dream I suppose.
In the end, if you ever find a need to sell, you'll find that there will be a much greater variance in price for Morgan dollars graded lower than MS65. Chris
64, possibly a 64+ on a good day. Great reverse, but lots of dings on the neck area of the obverse. Not a coin to be graded—keep it where it is, in the GSA.
I would send the '85 to NGC to get the strap label. The straight lines on the cheek are roller wheel marks on the planchet that were not fully struck out. You can see them above the ear as well. I would not be shocked if this came back 65.
Has anyone asked Brett or Heather if they have any plans to change that to a band like NGC uses? I can't recall ever seeing that question brought up
That's a good idea. I don't think I have seen anyone ask them that either. I would certainly consider PCGS if they would do a band around the original plastic rather than adding another plastic shell over an existing plastic shell.
Would definitely be interesting to see what they say if someone created a thread about it. I wonder if NGC has the rights to the band design though since ANACS doesn't actually use a band shape and has the big sticker style over the top and bottom
Do you mean a shoe box or slab box or the original box it came in? And do you have the papers? I’m just curious... On your question, I’d answer, unless you want to sell it, let it alone. You don’t get an appraisal on your house when you’re not selling it, and that’s the same thing these grades are, market appraisals. You have a strong technical MS64, there, and it’s safe and secure. Just continue to take good care of it.
