magnet i am using is a business card type that u stick on your fridge. folded... really cool it sticks.....one guy said could be plated nickle could it be possible that they got the weight down right same as a steel cent?

 

If there is no bezel, it has been plated. Zinc melts at half the temperature of copper, so it is not heat related.

from an artists perspective. It looks like a really good copy. But flawed on the pillars. The pillars on the monument look perfectly sized. I personally have never seen every pillar on the monument the same size.

 

Copies are supposed to be marked copies, but seldom is the copy mark put on the copy.

 

Still the only possibilities are a bezel or it has been plated. Either way it has just been altered by someone, no numismatic value.

From the new pictures I agree no bezel, so it is nickel plated. And a normal copper plated zinc cent is already very close to the weight of a steel cent because steel and zinc have very similar densities. Steel is about 7.87 g/cm3 and zinc is 7.133 g/cm3. Add the nickel plating (nickel 8.9 g/cm3) and the final weight would be pretty close. With mint tolerances there could easily be an overlapping of weights.

 

Someone messed with an ordinary 1992 cent.

Ok i have a penny 1992 no ment mark and it does stick to a magnet. I do not have a scale that would weigh the penny but i do know a person that has a high tech scale that would be able to weigh it ten spots past the decimal and it will be my next destination after but in the middle of the back side it seems to have some holes or indentation of some sort but I had no idea what to think of it

 

No mint mark means it was minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Did you read any of the responses on this thread? Do you have pictures?

 

Think of it like this, they didn't make no steel pennies in 1992.

 

IMHO this it is an aftermarket penny. The design do not fit on both sides O and R with the Mint Design. The big hint here it is the MM. The MM was present on Master Die in 1992 and will be no variations on dimensions, orientation and placement. Other hint it is the side and the rim of this coin which do not fit with the Denver 1992 cents.

In US you has the right to posses fake coins but not to sell or do any other forms of commercial transactions. Normally must have the COPY on, but many do not put on.
