This is the last one I bought that put me on temporary probation and yes it was worth it. It is darker than the Heritage photos show. It is also much nicer looking in hand than the pictures can possibly show.
I am still a kid, and my parents let me manage my own money. I buy and sell quite a bit of stuff, and I'm not broke yet!
Was it worth it, Seattlelite wonders. If he means in money terms, no-one is stopping him from revealing the price. Then it would be easier to judge whether or not it was worth it.- For whatever it's worth, I'm impressed by the 1614 Doppeltaler.
Tried to figure the legend out, but my Latin is getting a little rusty. And then all those abbreviations. Lessee ... MAX(imilian) D(ei) G(ratia) AR(chidux) AV(striae) D(ux) - [year] - B(urgundis) MA(gnae) PRVSS(iae) ADMI(nistrator). That would be something like "Maximilian by the grace of God Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy" - and the "Admin of Prussia" part apparently refers to him being the Grandmaster of the Teutonic Order. Was it "worth" the purchase? My answer is No if you usually have a $50/mo budget. That's like having to be on a terribly long diet after one opulent meal. But it sure is a very attractive coin. Christian
I like it and think you found a very attractive coin! Best of luck with grading and hopefully you’ll be able to replenish your coin budget soon.
That’s a beauty! I love the reverse design and have never seen two standing men. I like that look better. Great choice to go into coin probation for. Forgive my ignorance, but is that a double taler?
Well, it cost me $1,600 and I’m happy with it, but I’m always curious to hear feedback as well as see what other purchases people made that forced them to not buy coins for a period of time. This is more intended to be a fun thread. There’s no wrong answer to the question
My wife understands that the money spent on a coin is not gone forever. I may not get as much back as I paid, particularly over the short term, but there is still recoverable value. My wife likes to travel internationally. That money is NOT recoverable; only memories and pictures remain.
That is 2 Wildmen. It is a Single Thaler from Brunswick-Wolfenbuttle. NGC graded it as an AU58 but it looks even better.
So do I, and being in Europe, that does of course mean internationally too. And yes, currently I do spend more on traveling than on coins. To paraphrase the topic title, is it worth it? Yes, absolutely. I know there will be a time when using trains or planes for several hours in Economy will get tough for my body, so until then, traveling has a higher priority. But I am glad I do not have to make an "either trips or coins" decision ... Christian
First, this is a mighty fine specimen & I think you will do well. I wish I had someone to throttle me back smuggrin - not! (Truth be told, she knows nothing of my exceptional endeavors, so I'm good right now.) Do not respond to any inquisition until you are certain of what you are being charged with - you were set up man!!!
For someone reason people think all women like purses and shoes. I believe I own more pairs of shoes than my wife and she hasn’t worn a purse since our first kid was born... I’ve got nothing to save me from her spending habits. No luck there.
Beautiful coin! Having a wife that was in agreement with you to purchase said coin speaks volumes. Therefore least you never forget, it’s more like, “Beautiful Wife”, then beautiful coin!!! Congrats.
