Not to hijack, but I know little about proofs and see a chance to learn something here. I’d guessed PR63 on this coin because of what looks like a fine spray of tiny white spots all over it - an effect I see often on modern proofs. Is there a name for that? And does it not affect the grade?
It looks like the fine, white toning that can form on these coins when the mint cello pack has not been stored properly. I guess the TPG must be grading on the absence of marks and hairlines, but that type of toning is just as distracting and undesirable IMO. I don’t think that this coin would dip very well. It’s best to leave it as it is and sell it to someone who believes in slab grades.
