while roll searching tonight i noticed something different . it looked dirty and was a 1964 . so i tossed it into the return pile . when getting ready to rerap them i took a second look . and there was something wrong with it it was thiner and not streaked like some nickels but all coper collor and quite dirty. i got out a toung depresser and a pencil and ttried a balance scale the nickel was heaver than the copper colored one. is it possible that it is a mule that has been floating around since 1964. i am taking it to the post office tomarow and have it weighed. the i have to wate till thursday to go to the coin shop to have it checked. does any one know if there is other 1964 nickel on a cent planchet ? all help and ideas are welcome . cant post a picture till friday my daughter still has my camra.
A mule is a coin that was struck with a reverse die not intended to be used with the obverse die. (Example: state quarter obverse with Sac dollar reverse) What you may have is a nickel struck on the wrong planchet. I don't think the post office's scales are sensitive enough for your purpose. Take the coin to a coin dealer or a jeweler; their scales are much more sensitive.
i will but i have to wate till friday . i dont have any one to stay with my mother while my wife works. my mother has alzheimers and can't be left alone for very long. are these very rare.
Today I found a US 1964 Copper Nickel. And it too is thinner & lighter than a reg. nickel. I guess now I need to find a coin shop to find out the value of it?
