Hello, I have been working hard to identify and organize the various world coins given to me by my parents, but without access to a Krause catalog it has been a bit slow. Attached please find a few pictures which I need help identifying... two feature the obverse and reverse sides of three coins indicating "Empire Cherifien", one of 25 centimes value and two of 1 franc. What country are these from and what years are they? There are more characters which appear Arabic to me, but I am uncertain. Another two pictures feature a token with a fortuneteller peering into a crystal ball with a swastika on one side, and various good luck charms on the reverse. I actually saw a couple on eBay recently, but the auctions did not indicate any information about tokens. If the text is unreadable, one side says "Good Luck Will Accompany The Bearer", and the other says "The All Seeing Eye Guards You From Evil". Finally, two pictures show a very well-worn coin with a hole, probably used as a necklace or some such (in my estimation). Think of this one as a challenge! I was wondering if there is any way to identify it... the obverse appears to be a George, and the reverse seems to have the beginning of a "1" right near the hole. Thanks for any help you can provide! ~neuron
The country is Morroco, and the time period of the Empire Cherifien French Protectorate is 1912-56. The 25 centimes is either Y#34.1, 34.2, or 34.3, all cu-ni and issued in 1921 or 1924. In circulated grades the three varieties range in catalog value from $1-19. The 1 francs are Y#36.2, nickle, undated and issued in 1924, worth $1.25-$10 circulated. All were minted at Paris, with a thunderbolt privy mark, during the rule of Yusuf, at the beginning of the Protectorate. I am soooooooo not into tokens, that I have no idea where or how to research yours. I did notice that the swastika is not the Nazi symbol, but rather the good luck symbol found in the cultures of some American Indian tribes, Japan, and other world locations. The difference is in the direction the arms bend. I agree that the profile could be George VI, and the bust is facing the correct direction, but beyond that - - -
The token is probably from the 20s. The holed piece- Spanish late 1800s pesata? (I don't have my Krause handy)
Thanks for the info everyone! The holed piece is about 23 mm in diameter, and probably made of some silver alloy (it isn't copper, for sure). Any other thoughts on the token? Thanks, ~neuron
did you ever find anything out about that token? iv just come into possesion of one identical to the one you have and cant seem to find anything about it. please let me know if you find out anything or even where to look.
I suppose your silver holed coin could be 1/2 gulden of the kingdom of Württemberg KM#573 (German States), struck in the name of king Wilhelm I.
i also have a coin exactly the same as yours with the arab looking on to a crystal ball with a swastika on it and the all seeing eye and all the good luck charms you can contact me at mackdaddy59@gmail .com
I found you token, GOOD LUCK COINS OR "POCKET PIECES" 1930s http://www.luckymojo.com/goodluckcoins.html
