I have a feeling the coin was cleaned and retoned. Kinda looks like something GSC would have for sale.
Thanks. Pretty much what I expected your answer to be but I wanted to make sure I was interpreting your comments correctly, and, FWIW, we are in complete agreement.
All of my coins that have similiar toning wre stored in small brown coin envelopes for 30-40 years so I believe the colors are result of interaction with the paper.
I just acquired this Morgan dollar today I’m not a coin grading expert but just wondering if any of you all know does this look like natural or artificial toning to you? either way I will be satisfied with the coin just because I like old dark coins like this and this one has extremely good detail on the head and feather areas I would just like it a whole lot better if I knew if it was naturally toned or not ! It looks natural to me comments welcome thank you !
That looks like natural tonin but it will continue to dark through the years. If you put it in an airtight holder that may slow down the process. PS. You should start your own thread.
