I just recieved an 1871 three cent nickel from Tim at vt coins. I just to get to have a nicer example than what I had. The coin was graded AU and looks great in hand. My pics are far from perfect, but just had to post. I was thrilled when it showed up, and wanted to thank Tim again.
Good one. From your pics it looks like the typical strike weakness in the first "I" of "III". The Mint had a terrible time fully striking these coins because of their size and the metal hardness. Yours is better than average.
It's hard to tell from these pics, but most of the vertical lines show. There are a couple week spots, but not bad.
I like it and AU all the way. Looking at the obverse I just realized something. This is one of my favorite, and vastly ignored, representations of Miss Liberty. Just so different.
