Does anyone have a good picture of the "O" mintmark on a Barber Quarter. I have a 1909 that I am having a hard time telling if it is a "D" or an "O" mintmark. I have several other "D" Barbers and this one doesn't look quite like those. The reason I ask is that from what I have read the 1909-O is a scarce date and the 1909-D is more of a common date. I did a quick search on eBay and couldn't find any good pictures, so I figured I would check here. Even at a G-4, the 1909-O seems to worth about $11 more than the 1909-D according to the Red Book.

Good luck on it being an 'O'. That is a scarce coin, and (currently) very difficult to find. Since I do not do auctions, the best that I have ever found is a F-+. Hopefully yours is an 'O'.
Yup, it is really waking up. I know the guy who woke up the date. He offered me $100 for the Fine piece that I had, when it listed for $40 (or so). He then went on a buying spree and amassed about 100 pieces and wrote to Numismatic News (or Coin World, I forget which) and claimed that it was the next 1901 S. And worth thousands. The reply was less than kind. To my knowledge he still has them. But, then again, he was and still is a jerk, even if he did increase the values of my pieces.
THANKS...those pictures should help!!! I'll have to wait until I get home from work to compare it with my coin. I am not sure how much it will help, since I haven't quite mastered the art of coin photography.....but I thought about trying to scan it or take a picture of it and enlarge it. Sadly even if it is an "O" it is not much better than a G-4...but, I will let you know what I find out. Thanks again for your help!!
Well, I have determined that my 1909 Barber Quarter is only a "D". I found some better magnification and was able compare it with the pictures provided. Oh well..it is still worth more than I paid for it.:smile

Clembo: Well, since I have no idea who you are talking about. Still, the reason that I am not a fan of his is because I won several lots on his ebay auctions and he never delivered. Also, he screwed around with several dealers that I know very well and ........ well it is a long story. As for you... I owe ya one zinger.
