But, it is harder to prove that it is truly a blank without the upset rim that makes it a planchet. Chris
Thats a good point. Unless I were to find one without the upset rim in a box, im not sure how I could check if it was authentic
The weight would be one way to check. 3.11 grams for a copper blank and 2.5 grams for a copper plated zinc blank But take into account a +/- variance when weighed.
Yeah i was thinking of that, but ive actually researched forgeries and its amazing to what lengths they will go. Some are nearly the exact weight.
I had a blank that I found in an original Mint bag. I submitted it to NGC for authentication, and they rejected it. Chris
Well, how was I supposed to know that it would be in the Mint bag? Had I known, I could have submitted the whole unopened bag to them, but that would have costed a fortune for 5,000 coins. I also understand their position because they would, in effect, be guaranteeing the authenticity of the blank. Chris
Yeah, there's no way of telling what's in an unopened mint bag. i just fini9shed another box without finding much. Only a couple die cracks, an RPM, and a 2009 ddr.
