Hey guys, how would you grade this nice Indian Head? I had a few ones in the hand now and I think that this one has still a good luster. Unfortunately it is very hard to take photos of these coins :-( Greetings Alex
I would knock this one down to AU-55 because there are a lot of marks in the fields. This illustrates the problem the mint found with the incuse design. While it was true that the design elements were well protected, the fields were the highest part of the coin. They took a beating, and coin started to look scruffy after a limited time in circulation.
I see slight wear on the high points of the headdress, and a bunch of scratches on the coin, Au53 would be my assessment.
Thanks a lot for your help! The mint luster is a good indicator for traces of harm. Unfortunately it very hard to show it. That is why I made a video. Does it affect your Opinion about the coin?
