Ok I am not a collector, I don't know the terminology but I have always collected these because of sentimental value. I have had many, many, many over the years and nothing ever stuck out as different or special.... I have them all over the place. But yesterday I came across this one and everything about it is different and I can't find any like it on Google or on this site and I am just wondering IS there something different? It almost seems counterfeit. The colors, the feel, the missing face, the difference in the rim and sides... I came across it when it wouldn't fit in a laundry mat dryer, it's too wide and everything about it is just not usual. I took the best pictures I could next to one of my other Bicentennial's to see if the difference stands out. I can't wait to see what I can learn, what if anything more than face value it's worth or if I was totally fooled.... Thanks in advance y'all! 20190307_134051.jpg 20190307_134033.jpg 20190307_134212.jpg 20190307_033235.jpg 20190307_033452.jpg 20190307_033006.jpg 20190307_033014.jpg !

Welcome to the forum Krystal. I'm thinking your fat one is a dryer quarter but I could be wrong. The bicentennial quarters have a lot of struck through grease errors, that's probably your other one at the top but I'll let the error people verify if I'm right or not. :D Value is only 25 cents, you can spend them if I'm right! ;)

Most likely "spooned" in your example, but, most commonly, if the ridges are missing on 1970s quarters that just means 40 years of circulation wear.

Ordinarily, I might agree with @furryfrog02 about being spooned, but since there is the damage to the devices as well, I'm inclined to think that this coin was stuck in a dryer.

I noticed that as well but was thinking maybe it was scratches from whatever the person used to hold the coin. Who knows, Ive been wrong in the past and will be in the future :p
