Has anyone actually managed to get a mint sewn bag of $2000 presidential dollars?

I doubt that this is true. I have not heard anywhere of any First Spouse coins being melted. People are, and have been collecting them. Maybe not so much starting with the Dolley Madison, but definitely the first three spouses.

So true. The quality is pathetic. My girlfriend wanted to start collecting them. This is good because anything I can do to get her interested in coins is a positive thing, right? So I bought her a nice Dansco album with the slipcase. And I hand picked some acceptable coins to go in the Dansco. But to get just one halfway decent coin I have to open up two rolls. That's one coin out of 50 that is acceptable.
If the US Mint wants people to be interested in the Presidential Dollars they should do something about quality.

Are you talking about rolls purchased from the US Mint or bank rolls? I have heard that the mint roll quality is better than the bankk rolls.

I imagine this may have alot to do with the coins in the mint rolls not having spent a truckride under the weight of 140,000 dollar coins. Of course I'm speculating and have no idea how much differently the coins destined for mint rolls are handled versus the coins destined for CWI rolls.

this is why i stopped my interest as soon as i got some. they looked horrible. for fairly new coins they had more problems than older coins put in a blender and set on puree.

send them a roll and see if the presidential coins will blend.

Kids have a album each and I have both years proof sets. Their grandmother has been getting circulated P's and we bought uncirculated D's off Ebay. It doesn't take but a quick look to tell which ones are which. We may as well keep filling the albums until they're done.

I really like the proofs and plan on continuing with those. They may never amount to anything but I like them so I guess thats what matters.

Am enjoying reading the forums. Keep up the good work. Learning so much hanging around...

    Cheers

Heard wrong; they're pretty much the same in my experience. On some ocassions I've found better in generic bank rolls than Mint rolls lol... why I don't buy Mint rolls of anything, except Kennedy halves (since that's only way I can get any).

They've tried coins once and they didn't blend lol... they don't show the video of that of course. Coins and a crowbar are the only things that failed to blend that they've ever tried.

    "coin smoke, dont breath this!"

    i love that sit.

if they can blend neodymium magnets i cant imagine them not being able to chew up some coins.

I don't believe the mint sold 2000 coin bags of these did they? And the "mint sewn" bags that get shipped out to the fed would be around 100,000 coin ballistic bags.

Nope the Mint Roll coins take that same truck ride in the same type of bags. They are not handled any differently and they get shipped to the same place for rolling. Only difference is in the rolling paper the machine is loaded with.

I did hear that banks can eiher order $1000 boxes (rolls inside) or $2000 bags. I assume they are all packed by the outside vendor, but apparently there are $2000 bags to be had.

Per all the press releases, these coins were available in mint sewn bags of $2000. I had confirmed orders 3 times via United Armor and all three times the driver brought boxes. I finally gave up as it just didn't mean that much to me.
