This is just 3 coins out of my grandfathers collection who worked at the bank for more than 40 years.Any info on these three coins would be appeciated. Thanks
We can help you, but can't you at LEAST do a little work yourself? You can read what they say they are. Why don't you google them and get a general idea of what they are worth. Then demonstrate to us you have a least tried and aren't just a moocher.
The Morgan and Peace dollars are nothing special. I can't tell you anything about the gold, but if I were you, I'd take all of the coins out of those flips. They might contain PVC which can be harmful to coins. Chris
The two worn silver dollars are worth only their silver content. However, you appear to have a South African 1 Oz Gold Krugerrand which is worth its weight in gold. With that being said I'd recommend you take it to a coin dealer to appraise and determine the authenticity.
Well, that always happens, doesn't it. People can't be bothered to research. In dollar value, around $20 for each silver dollar (Peace and Morgan), and maybe $50 or $60 over spot for the gold 1 oz Krugerand.
I've found that when you need info from internet people and go about requesting it in a straight forward way, it will be hard to come by. What you need to do is frame it in a certain context, specifically, as if you know already know what you have. Try to be wrong though, even intentionally. Then, you will have expert after expert coming out of the world wide woodwork to enlighten and educate you about every aspect of what you are posting about.
Well, there's another new member that won't be coming back. The OP might have already done some superficial research and was just looking for more info at CT. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Nice work myownprivy. This reminds me of the time I walked into the coin shop and was laughed at for being a newbie. I never went back. This is a great way to get new people interested in the hobby. Write a nasty response to a simple question.
You would not apply any numismatic value to 100 year old Silver dollars? That seems kind of sad. The 1881-O should be worth $19 as it has a readable date, mint mark, and features. The melt value is only $11.63 today. The 1922 Peace Dollar should also be worth more that the $11.63 melt value.
Did I miss something here? The OP obviously did some research and found Coin Talk. With all the google results found when searching why not join and ask a coin forum that is full of knowledgeable people who collect coins?
Welcome to Coin Talk , glad to see you have some interest in coins and their value. A nice gift from your Grandpas collection. May I suggest that you ignore the ignorance of some and take the good of others . If It bothers these people so much why do they even bother answering. A lot of new people do not take the time or have the time to do research but you must have done some to find Coin Talk . That is a great start. There are hundreds of great people here that will give you honest and direct answer to your inquires. Buy yourself a RedBook and that book has a lot of information that will help you out with other coins you may have. Do not let the impatience of others scare you away from coin collecting . The great people here out number the others but 20 fold. . Feel free to ask any questions about the coins you have , and do take some time to educate yourself some by google . The coins you have are a great start , keep on collecting and once more welcome to this site. Dillan
I’m all in favor of encouraging a newbie to do some research. I’m also in favor of using a little more tact to suggest that they do it.
Just a wee bit harsh isn’t it? I mean.... I get it but aren’t we here to encourage rather than discourage?
I think the more important question is what does the OP want to do with these coins? If they are keep sakes from grandpa, then maybe they just want to know the information to label them. The OP never stated they are collectors, or plan to collect, only that they wanted information about the coins pictured.
