Of all US coinage, which depiction of the eagle do you believe is the "best?" Define best any way you like..
Gobrecht Dollars and Flying Eagle Cents. Just a very nice display of the Eagle flying with strong details. I also really like the Eagle on the back of Walking Liberty Half Dollars. I think they show a lot of detail and really are life like with the right toning.
My favorite eagle on a US coin by far is the Flying Eagle cent. My next favorite (at least at this moment in time) is the 1915-S Panama Pacific $2 1/2 Gold.
with apologies to 900fine for using his coin, but this is my favorite eagle representation: note that the olive branch is in the left claw and the arrows in the right. This represents a preference for war rather than peace. Something that was re-thought by the Mint and reversed on future coins.
Here are two of my favorites. #1. The Eagle on the Morgan Dollar Series is dignified and presents an air of well-being and prosperity IMHO. #2. The Eagle on the Capped Bust Series of US coinage displays the optimism and hope of a growing new Nation IMHO. Take Care Ben
I agree, the walking half reverses are nice- it's one of the few designs which, to me, even look improved by a bit of that toning/grime (vs. BU cleanliness). Which is why I'm happy buying rolls of circulated walkers as bullion.
#2 actually looks pretty agressive to me.. the monster beak and talons, plus the breastplate-like shield and arrows look like the US is warning other nations to steer clear.
That's from the 1983 Olympic silver dollar right? Er kind of cartoony for my tastes, though I like his expression. The eaglets on the 2008 Bald Eagle half look very cute lol... I think the eagle on the reverse of the Indian quarter/half eagles looks elegant and majestic. Something to be said for the flying eagle on the 2008 Bald Eagle dollar too.
Yep, thats where its from. I guess the expression and the cartooniness is what I like. Walkers, and Bust halves are probably my true favorites though.
