Pretty nice choice you know. Don't know if your aware but those Mavica's are none to have some of the best obtics around. I have the FD-7 and the FD-88. I think if I remember yours was the one that you could put a SD card in a special 3 1/2 disc and use it as a card reading camera. True???? I also use a Fuji 7000S, DXG 518, Cannon S410 and Samsung L73. Sure is a shame on how many film cameras I have now collecting dust.
If your S5000 is anything like my S7000 I can't understand why any problems. I think that is the best camera I have out of about 20 to 30 cameras. Not sure of the S5000 but mine has so many features about the only thing it doesn't do is make breakfast. Although it has a fixed lense it also has a standard 55mm filter ring so I can use virtually almost a hundred different filters I have. I have the ability to use either a XD or Compact Flash card. Up to 12 Megapixels. Hot shoes or built in flash, two Macro settings and on and on and on. My only complaint about those is the size. Might as well be an SLR for the size. I'm old so getting used to pocket cameras. Can't beat going to McDonalds with my granddaughter and with my Samsung L73. Fits in any pocket and if she kicks it or spills on it, no problems. I hope.
Carl, it might, but my wife handed it down to me after she got a better one which I'm not allowed to touch, LOL, if it had those features then it's not with it now... It'll do a 1 minute .mpg and take about 12 pictures on a regular 3.5" disk which just slides into the slot on the side. Take Care Ben
The S5000 3MP, fixed lens with adapter ring (I use a close-up set), XD card only, no hot shoe, 1 macro mode, 10X optical zoom 2.2X digital. Worst complaint is the purple fringing. Anything with shiny areas comes out with purple edges. Second worst complaint - Not Big Enough. I like 'em big - big enough I can push one and only one button at a time. Seriously though, the only problems I've had with the camera is pix of shiny little coins. I suspect most of that has to do with my skill set, though. The camera is only responsible for the purple.
Either my Canon A640 or Canon Rebel XTi. I don't have a macro lens for the Rebel yet, so I use the A640 for macro shots. I also have a QX-5 microscope that I use from time to time.
